Here's What Kevin Durant Said After The Nets Lost To The Celtics - Sports Illustrated

adanyabegini.blogspot.com

The Brooklyn Nets lost to the Boston Celtics on Sunday afternoon in Massachusetts by a score of 126-120.

However, Kevin Durant made NBA history when he scored his 25,000th career-point, which only 22 other players in league history have done.

After the loss, Durant was asked about the accomplishment, and his answer can be seen in the tweet that is embedded below from the Twitter account of SNY's Nets Videos.

"It's pretty cool," Durant said. "I should be at 30 right now to be honest. It's cool to reach that milestone and be amongst the greats, and I've just gotta keep pushing and keep going and see where I end up."

The loss dropped the Nets to 32-33 on the season, which made them fall to the ninth seed in the Eastern Conference.

  • DEROZAN PASSES JORDAN ON A LIST FOR THE BULLS: DeMar DeRozan and the Chicago Bulls have been on a roll as one of the top teams in the Eastern Conference. DeRozan is a five-time All-Star in his first season in Chicago, and he passed Hall of Famer Michael Jordan on a franchise-record list. CLICK HERE.
  • STEPH AND THE WARRIORS ARE ON FIRE: The Golden State Warriors have not made the playoffs in two seasons, but that appears likely to change this season. They have been one of the best teams in the entire NBA, and Steph Curry is having an MVP-caliber year. Before missing the playoffs for two straight seasons, they had made the NBA Finals five times in a row. CLICK HERE.

Nets' Kyrie Irving on boos from Celtics fans: 'It's like the scorned girlfriend' - CBS Sports

It's clear that fans in Boston still harbor some ill will when it comes to Brooklyn Nets guard Kyrie Irving. Irving and the Nets squared off against the Celtics in Boston on Sunday afternoon, and Irving was met with loud boos when he was initially introduced, and virtually every single time he touched the ball for the rest of the afternoon.

Irving played two seasons with the Celtics, and many fans were unhappy with the fact that he left and signed with the Nets in free agency after publicly stating that he planned to re-sign in Boston. Clearly such feelings haven't subsided much, if at all. Irving didn't seem to be especially bothered by the boos, though. In fact, he's prepared to hear them every single time he plays in Boston for the rest of his career.

"I know it's going to be like that the rest of my career coming in here," Irving said of the boos after the game -- a 126-120 Boston victory.. "It's like the scorned girlfriend who just wants an explanation on why I left but still hoping for a text back. It was fun while it lasted... The reality is that I'm just grateful for my time here in Boston. Everybody in the front office, everybody in that locker room treated me well. I still have lasting relationships in our league that extend as a brotherhood to us, and we still remain close."

You can see Irving's full comments on the boos below:

With the loss to the Celtics, the Nets dropped to a game below .500 on the season and down to ninth in the Eastern Conference standings, so Irving clearly has things to worry about other than some boos from former fans, but it's clear that Boston will continue to be a hostile environment anytime Irving plays there. This backdrop could add a level of intrigue if the Nets and Celtics happen to meet in the playoffs this season.

Kyrie blasts C's fans for boos: 'It's like the scorned girlfriend' - NBC Sports Boston

Brooklyn Nets star Kyrie Irving heard the boos loud and clear Sunday at TD Garden, and he knows they won't go away any time soon.

The former Boston Celtics guard was booed during player introductions and each time he touched the ball in the C's-Nets showdown. Asked after the game about the not-so-warm reception, Irving issued a retort to the C's fans who continue to let him hear it.

Celtics-Nets takeaways: Tatum outduels Durant in a shootout

"I know it's going to be like that the rest of my career coming in here," he said. "It's like the scorned girlfriend who just wants an explanation on why I left but still hoping for a text back. It was fun while it lasted.”

Irving went on to praise the Celtics organization and say he's grateful for his time in Boston. While he might maintain a solid relationship with his ex-teammates, the same definitely can't be said for the C's fans he once promised to re-sign with.

Led by a 54-point effort from Jayson Tatum, the Celtics took down the Nets 126-120 for their third consecutive victory. Irving notched 19 points and six assists.

Blackhawks at Flyers, 2022 NHL Recap: Score, stats, highlights - Second City Hockey

The Chicago Blackhawks regular-season woes in Philly continued on Saturday afternoon during a 4-3 loss to the Philadelphia Flyers.

Oskar Lindblom scored the game’s only first-period goal just 4:46 in but that lead only lasted 24 seconds into the second period thanks to an Alex DeBrincat tally after some nifty skatework from Jonathan Toews resulted in a faceoff win directly to the sniper:

Chicago took its first lead later in the second period after an excellent pass from Patrick Kane set up Dylan Strome for the go-ahead goal:

Cam Atkinson tied the game three minutes later but Strome wasn’t done, adding his second of the game and 11th of the season to give Chicago a 3-2 lead into the second intermission:

That was the end of the Chicago highlights, though. Derick Brassard tied the game at the 3:09 mark of the third and Atkinson scored his second for the game-winner at the 8:20 mark:

The rest of the third period plenty of post-whistle scuffles between each side and an inexplicable penalty for too many men on the Hawks in the final moments, helping the Flyers hang on for a 4-3 win.

Notes

  • The author of these notes may have partaken in some day drinking on a gloriously sunny and warm March day. Anything said below is subject to more sober analysis.
  • One of hockey’s oddest streaks continues: the Blackhawks have not won a regular-season game in Philadelphia since 1996. Conducted some science before the game started and learned our Twitter followers are just as old as we are:
  • This Kirby Dach hit on Kevin Connauton might be getting another look from the league. There’s a bit of bad luck here because Connauton slips a bit before the hit, which puts his head at about the same height as Dach’s elbow. But Dach doesn’t do anything to avoid contact to Connauton’s head, smashing it into the boards.

Given how random the NHL’s wheel of justice spins, making any predictions about what’ll happen to Dach feel pointless. But a phone call from the league on Sunday would not be surprising.

  • Dylan Strome was very good in this game and was rewarded with a pair of goals. Given how inconsistent he has been in his career, it’s hard to lock him in right now with a long-term contract. But it also feels like moving him at the deadline or allowing him to walk for nothing in free agency would be giving up on a potentially good player. Patrick Kane and Alex DeBrincat are the only clear-cut, locks as top-six forwards on this team. Jonathan Toews is more of a debate than we’d all like to admit. Strome is probably in the debatable category as well, but that puts him ahead of about 95 percent of other players in the system. I hereby plant my flag in the “bring back Dylan Strome for one more season” camp.
  • Rough game for Seth Jones, who has been very good for large stretches this season but has struggled with turnovers and his general play in the defensive zone recently. That pass through him to Derick Brassard for the game-tying goal just can’t happen. Here’s hoping it’s a blip on the radar, given his contract and all.
  • It can’t be easy for Kevin Lankinen to find a consistent rhythm in net given how infrequently he’s played this season as Marc-Andre Fleury’s backup, but Lankinen also hasn’t exactly seized the opportunities he’s been given this season. It ventures into a bit of a chicken-and-egg argument that exists for virtually every goalie: doesn’t play as well because he doesn’t play as much, but also doesn’t play as much so he doesn’t get into enough of a rhythm to play well. Still, it feels like there was more confidence in Lankinen as a long-term option after last season than there is right now and that’s not great.
  • A mostly rhetorical question:

That’s four in two games. Stop it.

  • Had no idea that the Hawks had a decent record of holding leads to start the final period. This game bucked that trend, though:
  • If you’re in the Chicagoland area, hope you were able to take advantage of the glorious morning and afternoon before it rains sideways this evening.

Here's how CNN verifies social media footage from the war zone - CNN

adanyabegini.blogspot.com

New York (CNN)Social media videos have played a critical role in CNN's coverage of Russia's invasion in Ukraine. But how does the network know they are accurate?

Here's one example: CNN's investigative team came across alarming footage in late February: Russian helicopters flying menacingly low over dark plumes of rising smoke just a few kilometers outside of Kyiv.
But it was not yet confirmed that Russian troops were that close to the Ukrainian capital. CNN had to verify that the footage was both recent and accurate through a process called geolocating.
Kate Polglase, a CNN investigative researcher, outlined the steps involved on "Reliable Sources" Sunday. The process begins by reverse image searching the video on Google Earth and a Russian search engine equivalent. The team zeroed in on the airport and surrounding area and began looking for possible locations that matched the images in the video.
"To geolocate it we did what's called a panorama," Polglase said. "So we created various screen grabs from the footage that looked significant."
Certain landmarks stood out in the screengrabs: A yellow building, a small rooftop structure and several white houses.
"We then went back to our Google Earth to find any situation, any location near the airport that match that description and luckily we found this," Polglase said pointing to her computer screen. "Here's the yellow structure."
Once verified, CNN was able to put the footage to use, and confirm the Russian army was mere kilometers from Kyiv. CNN's Matthew Chance, already on the ground in Ukraine, was sent to the location, creating an "iconic moment" where he was reporting from the airport as Russian soldiers streamed in.

'Soda straw' view

CNN's chief media correspondent Brian Stelter said it's important to remember we are seeing the war through soda straws — one narrow perspective from one location.
CNN's chief national security correspondent Jim Sciutto noted those limitations apply to coverage from both sides of the conflict. Russia is opaque and deliberately lying, he said, but Ukraine is also in the midst of an information war, despite the outpouring of images.
"Propaganda is part of fighting a war," Sciutto said. "You want to keep up the spirit of the population and the troops."
CNN and other media outlets are spread throughout the entire country, providing "multiple soda straws," Sciutto added.
"Making a judgment as to where this conflict stands on any given day requires that humility," Sciutto said, "because we don't know the whole picture."

9 Rich People Things From "And Just Like That..." That Absolutely Blew My Mind - BuzzFeed

Fortunately for her, newfound bestie/realtor Seema basically says "no biggie!" and just like that...the luxurious Manhattan home is back on the market!

To me, this plotline felt like something straight out of Gossip Girl. Who knows, maybe Chuck Bass and Blair Waldorf will become the next homeowners!

Fortunately, for fans of the original series, seeing Carrie ultimately choose to move back into her old apartment is one of AJLT's best waves of nostalgia. From a practical standpoint, however, who on earth would buy and sell the same piece of prime New York real estate all within the matter of a few days?

Carrie Bradshaw, that's who.

Utah Jazz brush off blowout loss to Pelicans: 'We're going to have nights like this' - Salt Lake Tribune

Given that they were mauled pretty much from the outset and never recovered, given that their eventual 34-point defeat was by far their largest of the season, you might have expected the Utah Jazz to project some dismay Friday night.

Instead, they were almost … calm.

Whether that equanimity in the aftermath of a beatdown by the suddenly surging Pelicans is a sign of mental fortitude or self-delusion remains to be seen.

But in the immediate aftermath of getting forcibly hurled into Lake Pontchartrain, the Jazz were consistently insistent that they would not make that one singular result — bad as it was — into something bigger.

“I’m not going to sit here and act like it doesn’t hurt, but I’m also not going to sit here and act like it’s the end of the world,” said Donovan Mitchell, after shooting 5 for 18.

Fellow All-Star Rudy Gobert was in agreement.

“We don’t wanna overreact to one game. None of us enjoyed losing, especially in that way,” he said. “… [But] sometimes in a season you have some of those games.”

Yeah, the Jazz are familiar with bad losses at this point — Magic, Pacers (twice), Pelicans (also back in November), Pistons, Lakers (twice), Rockets …

You get the idea.

This Pelicans loss was the biggest blowout; how it stacks up against those others can be debated, as New Orleans has, at least, now won three consecutive games by at least 25 points.

Then again, regardless of the Pelicans’ level of play, it’s not as though the Jazz didn’t mess up plenty on their own.

Break it down, Quin Snyder:

• “Obviously, we gave up some easy baskets in transition. … And we gave up some offensive boards when we did defend.”

The Jazz allowed 20 fast-break points, plus 15 offensive rebounds that led to 24 second-chance points.

• “When a team blitzes us, [we need to] get off the ball and be able to maintain spacing. That’s what we do. We’re going to keep seeing that, we’ve seen that before. When that does happen and they commit to the ball, that should be a time when the ball moves even more. … Our offense hurt our defense.”

By not passing quickly or often enough against aggressive on-ball defense, the Jazz totaled just 15 assists against 21 turnovers (which the Pelicans scored 36 points off of).

• “We had a hard time stopping ‘em early. We didn’t know personnel as well as we could have. … We didn’t execute in man [defense].”

The Jazz’s last lead of the game was at 5-4; thereafter, getting beat at the point of attack and a series of blown rotations made it all too easy for New Orleans, who earned a 35-17 lead in the first quarter by making 14 of 21 shots overall and 4 of 8 from deep.

Everyone involved noted that a too-casual start to the game enabled it to quickly spiral out of control.

“They came out from the jump ready to go, and we weren’t,” said Mitchell.

“These guys play hungry, they play like they’re starving. And that’s a mindset we can definitely learn from. … We just didn’t bring it,” added Gobert.

“We didn’t have the same energy that we’ve had,” concluded Snyder.

That about sums it up.

Mitchell would go on to lament that the Jazz didn’t make the right decisions against the Pels’ abnormally large size and wingspan, that they passed up some good looks, that their execution was not as precise as it needed to be against a team that “made it tough for 48 minutes. … Everything was like it was the last possession of the game.”

Did the Jazz play a single possession with that level of intensity?

Good question.

Mitchell would add that the Jazz were “upset, and rightfully so,” but that he was “not gonna overreact to it,” and the Jazz are “not gonna sit here, heads down.

“… We’re going to have nights like this,” he concluded.

Snyder could buy that to some degree.

But only if they also put the effort in to fix what can be fixed.

“Out of 82 [games], there are gonna be nights like this,” the coach said, “but that doesn’t necessarily mean we can’t look at the game and understand some things about it we need to do better and maybe a little different.”
