The S&P 500 index topped 4000 for the first time on Thursday. The benchmark index enters Good Friday on the heels of a record close. It will stay above that mark until at least Easter Monday.

While most banks and the post office will be open on Friday, the U.S. stock market won’t.
The New York Stock Exchange and Nasdaq are closed on April 2 in observance of Good Friday. Likewise, U.S. over-the-counter markets are closed. U.S. bond markets will be open but close early at noon EDT.
Are international stock markets open or closed on Good Friday 2021?
The London Stock Exchange, Frankfurt Stock Exchange, Toronto Stock Exchange, and Hong Kong Stock Exchange will be closed on Good Friday. The Tokyo Stock Exchange and Shanghai Stock Exchange will be open.
What about Easter Monday?
The New York Stock Exchange and Nasdaq will be open at 9:30 a.m. EDT on Monday. U.S. OTC markets and bond markets will also be open. The Toronto Stock Exchange will be open, too.
The London Stock Exchange, as well as markets in Germany and France will be closed on Easter Monday. The Shanghai Stock Exchange will be closed for Qingming Festival. The Hong Kong Stock Exchange will be closed Monday and Tuesday.
What’s been driving stocks higher?
The S&P 500 index climbed 1.1% to 4019.87 during the holiday-shortened week. The index is on a modest two-day streak, gaining 1.6% on Wednesday and Thursday.
President Joe Biden this week unveiled his $2.25 trillion American Jobs Plan on Wednesday, which seemed to overshadow a jump in unemployment benefit claims last week. Still, investors will be monitoring potential corporate tax increases that Biden hopes will fund the bill.
