Georgia football looks like it needs a wakeup call - Dawn of the Dawg

Georgia football has not looked like itself against Kent State in the first half of the game. The Dawgs have coughed up the ball three times and given up 10 points — as many as they have in the first three games.

Kent State has nothing to lose and is playing like it. Georgia looks asleep, like it hasn’t gotten off the bus yet. While there is a lot of football left to play, the Dawgs need a wake-up call. They do not look like the No.1 team in the country right now, and while it’s better to have these kinds of things happen this week instead of an SEC game — it still isn’t fun.

The only player who isn’t asleep in this first half is Brock Bowers, the guy who scored two rushing touchdowns in the first half. This offense hasn’t looked like this in a while, and while it is because of the three turnovers, it is never fun to see your team struggle against a team like Kent State.

Georgia football needs to find some energy at the half.

Starting quarterback Stetson Bennett threw his first interception of the season, and Ladd McConkey caused the other two turnovers. Neither looks their best, and it’s just a reality check for the Dawgs.

We got to give the defense some credit though. Despite giving up 13 points in the first half, those two blocked punts were impressive.

It’s evident from the freaking out Georgia fans that they aren’t quite used to adversity yet, so while we want the Dawgs to wake up, this is good to see the team fight despite their mistakes. Adversity happens in football, and how your team responds matters. Who cares if Georgia isn’t No.1 in the country after this week? Rankings don’t matter until the end of the season.

Georgia gave up a 56-yard touchdown, and it wasn’t pretty, but it’s also showing the fans that this defense is still young. Kent State did its homework, and the Dawgs will have to adjust. This dose of reality is good for Georgia, and it won’t get easier the rest of the season.

The Dawgs are fine, but this game is something they will have to dig themselves out of because of this sloppy first half. Georgia needed to be challenged to get better for the demanding SEC schedule coming next week.

Kent State doesn’t have the depth to last, but Georgia has to put down the throttle and shut it down, so the Golden Flashes don’t think they have a chance. Georgia has to stop breaking, and there is another half to assert its dominance. Trust the process because this little bit of adversity isn’t breaking Georgia — it’s making them better in the long run.
