SHAKER HEIGHTS, Ohio (WOIO) - A man has been living without heat at his apartment for more than a month now.
He’s resorted to using his oven to stay warm, along with space heaters.
Now, it’s taking a toll on his health.
After being ignored by his landlord, he called the 19 Troubleshooters.
“No one should have to live like this,” said James Miles, a tenant of an apartment building off of Warrensville Center Road in Shaker Heights. “No one should.”
James Miles is taking drastic measures to keep himself warm.
His furnace at his Shaker Heights apartment is broken.
Now he uses his oven, and multiple space heaters, to avoid the cold.
“I just turn that on sky high and let the heat rise,” said Miles, talking about the oven.
Instead of sleeping in his own bed, he’s slept on his couch for the last month to stay closest to the heat.
He’s contacted his landlord multiple times. He showed us the texts to prove it.
But all he’s gotten back are excuses and nothing’s changed.
Even the city of Shaker Heights has inspected his unit, failing it twice for the broken furnace. We called to get this confirmed.
19 Troubleshooters started with his property management.
The woman we spoke to claimed this is the first she was hearing of the broken furnace, despite Miles’ multiple text messages and the city being involved.
She promised to assign a vendor to the situation and get it fixed.
A promising start for Miles, after weeks of getting nowhere, but you can bet the 19 Troubleshooter will stay on this until he sees the solution he deserves.
