Sara Ramirez reportedly fired from 'And Just Like That': Che Diaz is 'a waste of airtime' - New York Post

Sara Ramirez has been axed from “And Just Like That …” for being a “waste of airtime” as widely unpopular character Che Diaz, according to a new report published by the Daily Mail.

The nonbinary actor, 48, implied on Instagram Tuesday that they were being fired from the Max series because of their pro-Palestinian politics, including their participation in several pro-Palestinian marches.

“While they give awards away, casting directors and agents are making blacklists of actors and workers who post anything in support of Palestinians in Gaza to ensure they will not work again,” they wrote.

Ramirez recently participated in a pro-Palestinian protest in Brooklyn, waving a transgender flag, and also took part in the Jan. 13 March for Gaza in Washington, DC.

But a source close to “And Just Like That …” told the Daily Mail that Ramirez had been “on the chopping block since last season” over creative concerns over their character of Che, a comedian and podcast host whose relationship with Miranda (Cynthia Nixon) had broken up her marriage to Steve Brady (David Eigenberg).

Che and Miranda later split in Season 2 of the Max series.

“Sara was not fired because they support Palestine and the cease-fire,” the source told DailyMail.com.

“Sara was fired because Che brought nothing to the show anymore. After Che split with Miranda, the character really held no value anymore and fans found them annoying.”

The Post has reach out to reps for Ramirez.

Max had no comment when contacted by The Post.

Che described themselves as a “queer nonbinary Mexican Irish diva,” but many fans of the series found the character grating.

Nixon, 57, has also been vocal in her support for pro-Palestinian causes — including participating in a hunger strike in late November — but there are no plans to write her off “And Just Like That …”

“Cynthia has been incredibly vocal about her support for Palestine and for her being an open lesbian,” the source said.

The source also alluded to Ramirez’s time on ABC’s “Grey’s Anatomy,” where she played Dr. Callie Torres for 10 seasons, leaving the series in 2016 to take “some welcome time off.”

“The storyline as a struggling comedian was a waste of airtime and Sara knew it,” the source told the Daily Mail. “Sara needs to accept that this is not ‘Grey’s Anatomy,’ and her character was not a pivotal part of the storyline.”

“I am not the fictional characters I have played, nor am I responsible for the things that are written for them to say,” Ramirez said last June to Vanity Fair in response to criticism of Che.

“I am a human being, an artist, an actor. And we are living in a world that has become increasingly hostile toward anyone who dares to free themselves from the gender binary, or disrupt the mainstream.”

Max declined to comment to the outlet, which also reached out to Ramirez’s reps.

“And Just Like That …” was spun off from “Sex and the City,” HBO’s hit series starring Sarah Jessica Parker, Nixon, Kristin Davis and Kim Cattrall.

All but Cattrall, who had a brief cameo in the Season 2 opening, returned for the Max spinoff series.

Season 3 of “And Just Like That …” will not premiere until 2025 due to delays caused by last year’s Writers Guild of America and Screen Actors Guild-American Federation of Television and Radio Artists strikes.
