The 2019-20 NBA season was a chance for the Golden State Warriors to retool after appearing in five straight NBA Finals.
Dubs head coach Steve Kerr was asked by Howard Beck on “The Full 48” podcast how he feels with all of the losses the team endured this year after an historical five-year run.
“We were kind of due for a year like this, we’ve had such good fortune over the years with our roster,” Kerr said. “Generally, with our health, we’ve had a couple of injuries along the way, apart from that we have had really good luck. A lot of great things have happened for us the last five years.”
Kerr adds that the Warriors expected this coming into the year and wanted to remain respectful about the process.
“I’m proud of the way our players, coaches and management handled the season,” Kerr said. “We obviously didn’t have a lot of success, but it wasn’t for a lack of trying, there was no tanking going on in our world.”
Kerr is optimistic the Warriors will bounce back next season, pointing to some of the young guys being better, the return of a healthy Klay Thompson and a high draft pick as reasons he feels the team will me among the NBA elite again for the 2020-21 season.
“A lot of our young players really developed and we got a couple of guys who are healing and be ready by next season,” Kerr said. “I think it’s exciting, it’s almost a gap year, but it’s been a productive one.”
