There hasn’t been a true Ram SUV since 1993, when the third generation Dodge Ramcharger went out of production in the U.S. But with off-road SUV popularity booming with the new Ford Bronco incoming, would it be time for FCA and Dodge to return to the market with a new one? That’s just what Instagram rendering artist wb.artist20 has considered with his modern take on the Dodge Ramcharger. Just like their last project we featured, a Chevrolet Suburban HD, it’s a model that isn’t on the horizon, but has some merit to exist.
The design started off with the Ram 1500 Rebel and chopping off the rear doors. The classic Dodge Ramcharger was only ever offered as a two-door, and this modern reimagining continues that trend. From there, it’s basically a two-door Ram pickup with a bed cover. But some sneaky details link it back to the original.
First, the rear side windows wrap up onto the roof, just like the classic. Coupled with the large panoramic sunroof, this would have to be a very light-filled cabin, if a little hot in the summer. The render also has flared rear arches that look great, and tie in to the old Dodge Ramcharger.
We can’t think of any real reason why there isn’t a Ram SUV. With the Jeep Wagoneer on the way on what’s rumored to be the Ram 1500 pickup truck’s platform, it just seems… odd, at the very least. It could compliment the Jeep Wagoneer rather well, and maybe handle a different, more mainstream segment of the market where the Jeep is more enthusiast driven. Maybe some true believers at FCA are thinking the same thing.
