Editor's note: An Apology
We originally published the article below with the intent of covering Woke Up Like This (WULT), an independent, local Hong Kong business who produce vegan, cruelty-free beauty products and whose values focus on self-love and positive energy. The brand released a product line named after inspirational women, which it hopes will inspire their customers to live their dreams. This includes a product called Dream Like Anne inspired by Jewish diarist and Holocaust victim Anne Frank.
We understand and recognise the insensitivities within this article, and that the inclusion of this product came across as disrespectful of Anne Frank and what she represents. We sincerely apologise for the distress that this piece has caused. At Time Out, our aim is to maintain our valued readers’ trust in our editorial integrity and continuously aim to improve on our reporting efforts with our readers’ best interest in mind. We appreciate your understanding.
From WULT: “To those who were offended by the naming of the Face Dab - Dream Like Anne, we sincerely apologise for the miscommunication and misunderstanding this has caused. We have the greatest respect for Ms Anne Frank, and it was never our intention to be insulting, offensive, or to reap profits from naming the product after a historical figure whose life was tragically cut-short by events that bring out the worst of mankind.”

Attention beauty queens! If you’re looking for a homegrown makeup brand that's vegan, cruelty-free, and all about female empowerment, Woke Up Like This (WULT) is the brand for you. WULT – founded by Hong Kong social media influencers Jenn Lam and Tawnia Lai in 2019 – is celebrating their anniversary by introducing ‘Face Dab’, a moisturising liquid blush made to combat Hong Kong’s hot and humid climate.

The Face Dab collection consists of five unique shades ($298/20ml), ranging from warm, orangey tints to soft, pastel purples. The new line also aims to promote Sexual Health Awareness Month by naming the products after inspiring, famous women in hopes to inspire WULT customers to live their dreams and break through gender barriers. These include American philanthropist Melinda Gates (Lift Like Melinda), English writer Virginia Woolf (In Woolf’s Words), Holocaust diarist Anne Frank (Dream Like Anne), Mexican painter Frida Kahlo (Viva La Frida), and English chemist Rosalind Franklin (The Ray of Rosalind).

Packed with skin-nourishing ingredients such as olives and cold-pressed jojoba oil, the Face Dab blush is free of any denatured alcohols or parabens. making it a perfect skincare-slash-makeup hybrid that will give you excellent colour payoff on your cheeks while providing anti-oxidation, anti-ageing, and highlighting effects, which is especially ideal for the sought-after ‘no-makeup' look.
Face Dab will be officially launching on September 21, alongside with WULT’s first-anniversary flash sale. For those who wish to try out Face Dab, or have been eyeing their makeup combo sets and sister brand SKIN NEED’s newly-launched products, use the code ‘MEGASALE’ upon checkout at their online store.
