Performance will be accessible online December 19 – 26, 2020
STATEWIDE (December 17, 2020) — On December 19, 2020 at 7:30 p.m., the Vermont Symphony Orchestra (VSO) will premiere the second installment of its newest online concert series, “Music for Days Like This.” This December performance will feature four cellists and two percussionists in a chamber ensemble format, as well as a world premiere VSO commission by composer Molly Joyce, whose work incorporates disability as a creative source and inspiration.
As a series, “Music for Days Like This” interweaves the traditional with the unexpected, mixing a variety of chamber music ensembles — strings, percussion and piano — in a series of three online, streamable concerts during the 2020/2021 VSO season. The series features newly commissioned music from female composers, Black composers, and composers under the age of 20, intertwined with works from more traditionally performed composers. In addition to Molly Joyce, the December 2020 concert features an eclectic mix of compositions and arrangements of music by Arvo Pärt, W.A. Mozart, Sydney Guillaume, Carole Neuen-Rabinowitz, Gene Koshinksi, Josh Gottry and Jeanne Woodbury.
Preceding the show’s 7:30 p.m. launch, join VSO Executive Director Elise Brunelle at 7:00 p.m. as she interviews composer Molly Joyce, VSO Creative Projects Chair Matt LaRocca, VSO New Music Advisor David Ludwig, percussionist Tom Toner and cellist John Dunlop.
Tickets are available on a pay-what-you-can sliding scale starting at $5, and will be accessible December 19 through December 26, 2020. For more details and tickets, please visit www.vso.org/events. Closed captioning will be available for any spoken portions, please indicate if you are interested in closed captioning at check-out.
