WRIGLEYVILLE — The Dark Horse Tap and Grille has shut down, joining a slew of Chicago businesses to permanently close amid the coronavirus pandemic.
The dive bar, 3443 N. Sheffield Ave., closed its doors for good after Sunday night, when neighbors and regular customers were invited to swing by for a final round of drinks, owner Niko Kostakis Konstantoudakis wrote in a Facebook post.
“COVID is the big winner here, but it can never take our memories, our love, our drive or our hope,” Konstantoudakis wrote.
The Dark Horse opened in 2003. It has struggled to stay open throughout the pandemic, Konstantoudakis wrote.
The bar received a Paycheck Protection Program loan from the federal government earlier this year, but Konstantoudakis said the bar needed more support from the city’s government.
Late Sunday, President Donald Trump signed a $900 billion relief bill which includes another round of business loans, but such assistance comes too late for numerous restaurants, bars and neighborhood stores.
“I am sad that this is the end of an era, I am sad for our employees that have worked here from pretty much the beginning,” Konstantoudakis said.
