'I hope DC never looks like this again'; People describe security on Capitol - wpta21.com

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WPTA21) - Washington D.C. was on a total lockdown for Inauguration Day with thousands of national guard troops, fences, barricades and more protecting the ceremony.

Sam Jarjour and Caleb Jehl traveled to D.C. from Fort Wayne to watch the inauguration from a distance.

“Not a D.C. I’ve ever seen, it’s surreal actually," Jarjour said. "Never in my life could I imagine 25,000 troops deployed across D.C."

They say because of the security at the U.S. Capitol it felt eerie and unsettling to be there.

"The entire vibe of the city is very strange," Jehl said. "Most of the city is under lock and key."

They shared photos of their experience traveling there and they said it was unlike any trip to D.C. they’ve ever done before.

"Eerily quiet, walking down a highway today that's usually jam packed bumper to bumper traffic and we were walking down the road," Jarjour said."I hope D.C. never looks like this again."

Jehl and Jarjour say this was their first inauguration and while they were forced to watch from a distance it will still an honor to be there to witness the transition of power.
