The Senate hearing on confirming President Joe Biden’s nominee for education secretary, Meriden native Miguel Cardona, seems to be going well, with few of the gaffes or heated confrontations that marked the hearing for his predecessor, Betsy DeVos. He testified before the Senate Health, Education, Labor and Pensions Committee Wednesday.
A 25-page report on crime statistics assembled by the Meriden Police Department ’s Technology Division is a milestone to City Councilor Michael Cardona, chairman of the council’s Public Safety Committee. “It’s what we have been wanting for a long time,” Cardona said, “and I think we will get more of that and give more oversight as we go.”
