Word spread just a few days ago that several members of the South Korean all-female vocal group Blackpink are back in the studio working on new music, and reportedly at least one of the singers is also preparing to go solo for a moment. Amongst all this great news of forthcoming projects from one of the biggest girl groups in the world, one of their most beloved hit singles reaches a special milestone on the Billboard chart they have come to know very well throughout the years they've been together.
This time around, Blackpink’s “How You Like That” celebrates a full year, or 52 weeks, on the World Digital Song Sales chart. The track is steady at No. 12 in its fifty-second turn on the tally.
“How You Like That” served as the first single from Blackpink’s appropriately-titled debut full-length The Album. The track was released in late June of 2020, and it quickly became a huge win for them on quite a few Billboard rankings. The tune stood out as their second top 40 hit on the Hot 100, following their collaboration with Lady Gaga, “Sour Candy,” which opened inside the important region a few weeks prior. In the same frame, the title narrowly missed out on becoming the quartet’s first leader on the Digital Song Sales list, as it kicked off its time on that sales-only ranking at No. 2.
The first taste of The Album easily debuted at No. 1 on the World Digital Song Sales chart, giving the band their sixth ruler on the list. Before 2020 wrapped, Blackpink collected a seventh, as follow-up smash “Lovesick Girls” also went right to the top.
Most musicians would be lucky to see any of their singles spend a full year on any Billboard ranking, but this is a feat Blackpink has managed before. In fact, “How You Like That” is not their first cut to rack up 52 frames on the World Digital Song Sales chart, it’s their third. At present, their 2018 release "Ddu-Du Ddu-Du" holds as their longest-charting, as it has now lived on the tally for 93 nonconsecutive turns. Not far behind that win comes “Kill This Love,” which has earned 87 frames on the list, though not all in a row.
Blackpink probably won’t see another one of their singles make it to a complete year on the World Digital Song Sales chart for some time, as none of their tracks are particularly close to reaching that milestone. Their smash “Boombayah” has spent 34 weeks on the ranking, though it hasn’t appeared on it in some time.
