Samori Toure tore up the FCS ranks. The man had almost 1,500 receiving yards in a single season. But he wanted to show his game on another stage, one where the cameras are always turned on and the helmets are part of college football lore.
“You hit it right on the head," Toure said last week. “Games like this are a big part of why I came here. Big games like Michigan, Oklahoma, and Michigan State."
Nebraska players are all eager to play in another night-game environment, having relished the buzz in the stadium last week during a 56-7 win over Michigan.
“I would say that feeling I felt in the stadium, I don’t know if I’ve felt that ever in my life and in my time here," Husker quarterback Adrian Martinez said. "It was a great surge of energy. I think the fans really approved and were excited about what they saw on the field and we oozed confidence on the sideline. I think it’s fair to say walking around a little bit, it’s felt very nice.”
It's thought the noise and intensity will only go up this week with No. 9 Michigan in town, including the always analyzed Jim Harbaugh.
“I can see all of the potential story lines there for sure," Martinez said of Scott Frost trying to rebuild his alma mater, while Harbaugh tries to get Michigan over the hump too. "They are both former quarterbacks. Guys who played in the NFL. Both at their alma mater. Respected in their industry. And yeah, they are somewhat tenured here. Frost has been here for more than a couple of years. Harbaugh as well at Michigan.
"It is a big game for both of us. I know they are trying to continue to build momentum but so are we. Coming to our place it will be an exciting game. A big game for both programs.”
