Less than two years after winning a national championship, Ed Orgeron will not return as LSU head coach, according to The Athletic’s Bruce Feldman and Brody Miller. He is, however, expected to finish the 2021 season as part of a separation agreement. Sports Illustrated first reported the news.
Since the 15-0 championship season in 2019, the Tigers are just 9-8. They did beat Florida on Saturday, but negotiations on a separation agreement began before that. Orgeron has a 49-17 record at the school, but the downturn didn’t only come on the field. The football program has also been involved in several off-field problems involving sexual misconduct and Title IX issues, and Orgeron himself was named in at least one Title IX lawsuit.
