Finding a job can be a daunting experience, but it doesn’t have to be.

Nonprofit organizations and job centers throughout Milwaukee help job seekers find employment opportunities.

Here is a list of places that help job seekers.

Employ Milwaukee

Employ Milwaukee, 2342 N. 27th St., offers career and training services to individuals seeking employment opportunities from job placement programs to talent development programs to temporary employment. Individuals can work with Employ Milwaukee to choose a program that best suits their needs. The classes include workshops on résumé and interview preparation.

Social Development Commission

The Social Development Commission helps Milwaukee residents find job opportunities by connecting them to employers and helping them build their résumés and more. The organization offers two programs: Absolute Advantage, a 10-week program that prepares students for a career in construction; and ChefStart Culinary and Job Readiness Program, a six-week program where students acquire the necessary skills to cook in a commercial kitchen.

YWCA

YWCA of Southeast Wisconsin, 1915 N. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Drive, provides a plethora of services including a job center. The center has internet, employment leads, employment and training-related self-assessments and more. Individuals can also receive help with their résumé. The organization’s Women’s Professional Image Program helps women prepare for interviews and offers them access to professional attire through its donation closet. For more information on the program, call 414-267-3970 or email boutique@ywcasew.org.

WRTP BIG STEP

WRTP BIG STEP, 3841 W. Wisconsin Ave., connects employees and employers in the manufacturing and construction industries. The organization’s career services program offers tutoring, pre-apprenticeship training certification and exposure to various careers. Job Center of Wisconsin

The Job Center of Wisconsin helps job seekers look for jobs, create résumés, apply for jobs and partake in education and training opportunities. The center focuses on industry jobs, including agriculture, energy, finance, health care, manufacturing and trucking.
