Do you have anything in your store that looks like this? | Cindy W. Hodnett - Furniture Today

The popularity of retro home furnishings ebbs and flows, but ongoing e-commerce and social media attention of vintage products is keeping second-hand top of mind for many consumers.

In a recent article in Architectural Digest, e-commerce retailer 1stdibs reported that top-selling vintage and antiques categories with significant volume for the first quarter of 2022 include iconic dining room chairs and lighting. Additionally, top searches on the 1stdibs website highlight several familiar names like Thonet, Eames, Knoll and Noguchi, among others.

Although referencing specific vintage items, the Q1 results reported by 1stdibs correlate with several lifestyle trends that emerged over the past 18 to 24 months, many referenced by High Point Market Style Spotters in the biannual report released this week. Along with globally inspired and artisanal items, products featured in the trends report include numerous references to iconic designs, as well as a strong focus on eco-friendly materials and the stories behind the brand.

“Today’s designers are repurposing and reimagining materials once discarded as useless, and are developing innovative ways to create beautiful objects as a result,” noted Shay Geyer and Gary Inman, advisors to the Style Spotters. “We could not be prouder of this team for all their hard work, their astute observations and for dazzling us all with their curation of the Spring 2022 High Point Market.”

Each market, a select group of leading design professionals are chosen as Style Spotters to curate product and introductions through print, digital and live content. The Spring Market 2022 Style Spotters include: Kelly Collier-Clark, Kurt Jacob Miller, Kelly Finley, Monika Nessbach, Jacob Laws, Lucy Penfield, Jennifer Mabley, Jana Platina Phipps, Rachel Mautner, and Duval Reynolds.
