Karol G is calling out GQ Mexico for photoshopping her picture. On April 6, the singer posted a carousel of pictures on Instagram in what should have been a celebratory moment revealing her latest cover, but instead it was marked with disbelief over the publication doctoring her image.
Karol G's post started with a selfie, followed by the edited cover photo. "Today my GQ Magazine cover was made public, a cover with an image that DOES NOT represent me," she wrote in Spanish. "My face does not look like this, my body does not look like this, and I feel very comfortable and happy with how I look naturally." The singer went on to state that although she was extremely happy for the opportunity, when she raised concerns about the heavy editing of her pictures, no action was taken to correct it. Fans quickly came to the star's defense; some commented that the cover looks nothing like her, while others questioned why Photoshop is still being used in the first place. POPSUGAR reached out to GQ Magazine for comment but has yet to hear back.
Concerns about the use of retouching technology in photos and videos, as well as beauty filters in general, have long been talked about. Numerous celebrities have publicly challenged beauty standards and spoken up about it. This includes Khloé Kardashian, who previously addressed photoshop rumors, and Camila Cabello, who addressed that paparazzi took photos of her in a swimsuit without consent. With the popularization of filters on social media, influencers, brands, and lawmakers alike are starting to address the harmful effects that heavy retouching can have on mental health. Take a closer look at Karol G's full statement below.
