Kelly Rowland’s 2007 hit “Like This” featuring Eve has made its debut on Billboard’s R&B Digital Song Sales chart this week.
The Polow Da Don-produced track opens at No. 8, scoring Rowland her fourth top 10 hit on this chart. Her previous hits include 2012’s “Ice” featuring Lil Wayne (No. 8 peak); 2013’s “Kisses Down Low” (No. 8 peak); and 2020’s “Coffee” (No. 5 peak).
“Like This” was the lead single from Rowland’s sophomore album, Ms. Kelly, released in June 2007 on Music World/Columbia Records. The album debuted at No. 6 on the Billboard 200 and spent seven weeks on the chart.
As for “Like This,” it peaked at No. 30 on the Hot 100. In a 2023 interview with Rated R&B, Polow Da Don shared the story behind the song’s creation.
“That beat, which people were calling go-go, had a go-go feel, but to me, it had a Cuban/African-type feel to it. I was always big on drums. That whole beat started out just with the drums,” Polow Da Don told Rated R&B. “A guy named Blac Elvis came up with the horn line. A lot of my studio sessions are just jam sessions. That’s one thing that’s dope about that song. It was one of those nights where, whether it came out or not, we had so much fun creating it.”
In other news, Rowland is set to headline the Artscape festival in Baltimore, Maryland, on Sept. 22. The festival, powered by Baltimore Office of Promotion & The Arts, is free and open to the public.
“Artscape is one of Baltimore’s most iconic events, and its return this year is a marker of how our city is bouncing back after the pandemic,” said Baltimore Mayor Brandon Scott in a statement. “Baltimore is a town full to the brim with incredible artists and a rich history supporting our arts community. There is simply no better way to showcase their talent and their importance to our city than through Artscape. I cannot wait to welcome the incredible lineup of artists, performers, and vendors and the thousands of Baltimoreans and visitors who will get to enjoy this experience.”
Outside of music, Rowland has some acting gigs lined up. She will reprise her lead role as Jacquie in the Lifetime original film, Merry Liddle Christmas Vacation, the fourth installment of its franchise. She’s also credited as an executive producer.
Additionally, Rowland will star in Tyler Perry’s legal drama, Mea Culpa, which is coming to Netflix. Trevante Rhodes, Sean Sagar, Nick Sagar and RonReaco Lee will also star in the film.
