'Nobody deserved anything like this': Family of murdered Smithville mother and daughter speak out - WALB

SMITHVILLE, Ga. (WALB) - The family of the mother and daughter who were murdered in Smithville last week are speaking out.

Jessica Hatcher Thompson and her 17-year-old daughter Julianna were found dead on Thursday night.

“They were both beautiful people who deserved none of this, nobody deserved anything like this,” said Ryan Hatcher, Jessica’s Brother.

The double homicide happened on March 7 at the family's home in Smithville.

Investigators said foul play is suspected but they still haven’t released how the two were killed. Still, no suspect has been named. The Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI) is continuing to investigate.

Their family said the mother and daughter had been recovering from a bad cold. But when they had not heard from either of them that day, Jessica’s parents came to check on them.

“My mom found them in the house. She got there and the door was open and she raced in and discovered them,” Ryan said.

The family said Jessica leaves behind three children, and Julianna had just finished her GED last week. She was planning to attend Albany Tech to study phlebotomy.

“She wanted to work in the school system to help children with mental health issues like herself, and unfortunately, she didn’t get to do it,” Sarah Hardy, Jessica’s sister, said.

Ryan said he continues to question why this double murder happened to their loved ones.

“Such a senseless, despicable, horrible thing to be targeted at them,” he said.

The family is now preparing to bury both their loved ones with the help of a GoFundMe that has raised over $5,000. Click here to learn more information about the fundraiser.
