Trunk Songs from Some Like It Hot to be Presented in Some Like It ... - Playbill

Cabaret & Concert News Trunk Songs from Some Like It Hot to be Presented in Some Like It Cut Concert

The bonus material from Marc Shaiman and Scott Wittman will be performed by members of the Broadway company of Some Like It Hot.

Some like it hot, and that ain't bad! Trunk songs from Marc Shaiman and Scott Wittman's Some Like It Hot will be presented by the production's orchestrators Charlie Rosen and Bryan Carter in a one-night-only concert at 54 Below May 8.

Some Like It Cut will offer a glimpse into the development process of a new musical, presenting songs that didn't quite fit in the final version of the musical, while still standing as solid pieces of material. With members of the Broadway company performing alongside the show's eight-piece horn section, the concert will be guided by Rosen on bass, Carter on the drums, and Shaiman on the keys.

Additional performers will be announced at a later date.

Adapted from the 1959 film written and directed by Billy Wilder, Some Like It Hot features a book by The Inheritance Tony winner Matthew López and Amber Ruffin and a score by Hairspray's Shaiman and Wittman, with the former providing music and both contributing lyrics. Tony winner Casey Nicholaw directs and choreographs. Read reviews for the show here.

Inspired by the French film Fanfare of Love, Some Like It Hot follows two Prohibition-era jazz musicians in Chicago (played on screen by Tony Curtis and Jack Lemmon), who witness a mob hit and go into hiding by disguising themselves as members of an all-female band. Through their escape plot, the two become enamored with the band's singer and ukulele player, Sugar, played on screen by Marilyn Monroe. The film was previously adapted for the stage as the 1972 musical Sugar (due for an Off-Broadway revival later this year), with a score by Jule Styne and Bob Merrill and a book by Peter Stone.
